Courses to Become a Data Analyst
If you want to become a Data Analyst, you have to take courses. This is a given.
When you go to college, you are essentially taking courses, just in person, and when you learn without going to college, you are taking courses...
You absolutely do NOT need to go to college to break into data analytics, but it definitely does help!
For people like me, that didn't finish college, let's dive into your options! (proven to work, backed by data, and tons of testimonials).
I always tell people you need to learn the big 3. Excel, SQL, and a BI tool. Let's talk about each course I took and why it helped me land an entry-level position.
HUGE NEWS:
If you are a course nerd like me, take advantage of Maven Analytics Spring Sale which they are giving people up to 50% off their membership. BUT it’s only for the next 5 days so make sure to take advantage of this if you are trying to level up!
Check it out for yourself
Excel
You don't need to get a specifically designed data analytics Excel or Google Sheets course. You just need to know what IS possible within spreadsheets.
When taking a course, make sure you go through each video even if you think you know everything within a certain section. You'd be surprised how many hidden gems you can pick up to make your life easier!
On the other side, if you take a specific course designed for data analytics, you could save a lot of time and dive a little deeper into specific functions that can help you do your actual job.
SQL
The same goes for SQL! Knowing what you are capable of is hands-down the best way to take a course.
I recommend the Maven Analytics course that teaches you all about the necessary stuff an analyst would need to know
After learning the basics, you can definitely opt into taking a more advanced courses all taught by the same people.
Maven Analytics has taught me every skill I know to get into data at a fraction of the cost of college. Just saying.
BI Tool
This is where you want to take a specific data analytics-focused course.
In just about every course you take, you will have capstone projects that hold your hand while you create a stunning-looking dashboard!
With Maven Analytics, you go through multiple dashboards using multiple different types of data. Honestly, it was very fun learning a BI tool and I highly recommend checking out their Tableau course.
This is great and all to get started but you need to take it a step further after completing these courses.
The best way for you to solidify everything you learned is to go create some projects on your own.
You will fail, you will go back to courses, and you might even struggle, but keep in mind that with repetition, you will get better and faster with each dashboard.
That's it for this week.
Talk to you soon.
