Data Projects You Need to Make
There are so many different kinds of projects you can do for your portfolio.
Some are great, some not so... great.
If you didn’t know, a maximum of 5 projects is all you need to get into data analytics.
Using the core skills we can break this down into the following:
- 1 Excel
- 1 SQL
- 3 Dashboards
Now let's take it to the next level by joining a data community below.
You will get to discuss projects with other data professionals and get feedback or career advice to help you land a job in data. This is where I am most active so come say hi!
Not only that but there are some exclusive giveaways and discounts. See you soon!
Ok, let’s get back into it…
There are TWO types of projects you can do. Skill-specific projects or industry-specific projects.
Before we get into each, it doesn’t matter what kind of project you do unless you solve a question(s) with the data!
That has to be the most important part to attach to any project you do.
Skill-specific Projects:
These projects are mainly to show your skills within a certain tool. They can be bland and not relevant to the position you are applying to.
Great for people who don’t have or care about any particular domain.
But a savvy person during an interview can say something like, “I know it’s a different type of data but I wanted to show that I am flexible and can work with many types of data”.
Something along those lines, I’m sure you can come up with a better sentence than that.
Industry-specific Projects:
Not only do these show off your skill within certain tools, but they also show domain experience, which is more valuable to a company than your data analytic tech stack.
Just think about it, if you had 2 potential employees for a healthcare position and they had the same tech stack.
Employee A had zero professional healthcare experience and Employee B had zero professional experience but provided a healthcare-specific dashboard to show that they have some sort of knowledge of the position.
It's a no-brainer, the company will go for Employee B.
Taking time to look up different industries and finding datasets is time-consuming but you can find just about any dataset on Kaggle.
Get to creating and enjoy your weekend. I hope to see your dashboards in the community.
